September 1st 1998 we were blessed with the
birth of Erika. Seven weeks later, she was diagnosed with
Complex Congenital Heart Disease. Erika was a beautiful, smart,
funny little girl who loved flowers. She was loved by all that
knew her and she touched the lives of many during her five and half
years with us.
All of this would not have been possible had it
not been for the wonderful care and treatment that she received from
everyone at Children’s Mercy Hospital, especially the
Cardiology Department. Erika received several life saving

For the past five years we
have been holding the Plant Hope for Hearts
event in English Landing Park. The purpose
of the event was to celebrate our daughter,
Erika, plant daffodils in the park and raise
money for Children’s Mercy Hospital
Cardiology clinics. With your help during
those five years we raised over $160,000.
With that money Children’s Mercy Hospital
purchased a RT-PCR research tool, a new
portable echo machine, an EKG cart, six
Holter recorders, an oximeter and a live 3D
TEE probe. Starting this year our
organization will be planting daffodils
along the waterfront of the park privately,
with just friends and family.
Although
we are not holding a public event, we still
plan to support the cardiology department at
Children’s Mercy Hospital as well as
beautify English Landing Park. We sincerely
appreciate your past donations and hope that
you can participate again this year. With
your continued help, the hospital can
purchase important cardiac equipment that
will help its little patients.
